Anti Cross generation Sex Campaign. (CGS)
NDF in partnership with Population services international (PSI), is implementing a campaign among young people to desist from engaging in sexual relationships with men who are much older than them. This has been based on the findings that Sexual relationships between young adolescent women and older men pose a significant risk for younger women, a risk of HIV and other STDs.
Formative research revealed that the majority of young girls in CGS relationships noted that meeting short-term goals was the primary motivation in such relationships. “Sugar Daddies” (as the older men are commonly referred to) often pay as little as a plate of chips or cosmetics for sex. Sadly young women often do not consider the long-term consequences, including HIV.
Under this campaign,
- Radio programmes are conducted by NDF to sensitize the youth about consequences of cross-generational sex, and the general problem of HIV/AIDS.
- Listenership clubs have also been established in selected secondary schools to enable the young people share knowledge and strategies for dealing with the problem of cross generational sex
