The North Texas Health Initiative
Her Royal Highness The Nnabagereka, and some of the Board members hosted the team from The North Texas Africa Health Initiative based at the University of Texas at Arlington. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss possibilities of forming a partnership between North Texas Africa Health Initiative and NDF in providing sustainable health services for people living in slum areas, particulalry regarding the feasibility and logistics of establishing a mobile health clinic. During the meeting the discussions were mainly based on the Kampala slums and Kisenyi slum was considered to be the starting point.
The North Texas Africa Health Initiative plans to address health care challenges in Africa through a partnership between African countries and a group of North Texas universities, hospitals and the religious community. This project will equip health care workers with culturally congruent competencies aimed at intensifying awareness, outreach, prevention, and treatment of those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases in rural Uganda
Dr. Mishra – Mediheal Hospital.
As part of preparations for the hospital project, Dr. Mishra visited NDF for a meeting with Her Royal Highness and Board members to discuss practical issues related to the project. Among issues discussed were; the Memorandum of Understanding, fundraising strategies, schedule of the project activities and the structural set up of the hospital. Dr. Mishra is the Chief Executive Officer of Mediheal Hospital and Fertility Centre, based in Eldoret Kenya.
Board members’ visit to Mediheal Hospital.
Two board members, Dr. Olive Sentumbwe- Mugisa and Dr. Lydia Mpanga Sebuyira visited Mediheal Hospital and Fertility Centre and Parklands Mediplaza, to explore more about the operation, governance and range of services offered by Mediheal Hospital. They also visited Moi Teaching and Referal Hopital. From their findingss, they concluded that Mediheal Hospital and Fertility Centre was a much-needed facility for improving the healthcare of people in Uganda.

In order to enhance closer partnership with NGOs with similar goals, NDF registered as a member with national NGO coalitions involved in social justice, and, women and child rights advocacy. These are Uganda National NGO Forum and National Association of Women Organisations in Uganda (NAWOU
